Every man needs a mentor. What is a mentor? A mentor is a man who can share his lived life experiences and/or wisdom with another man to make his life more effective and efficient. Notice, I did not say, "make his life easier", although it's good when things work out that way! A mentor must be a wise man, wiser than the one he is mentoring. The word "wisdom" means, "to see". Therefore, a wise man can see what a less experienced man cannot. This is because wisdom comes through eye-opening experience. That is why most mentors are older men. On the other hand, just because a man is older does not mean he is wise. Mentors must be carefully vetted. Mentorship is more than passing knowledge. Any man with bona fide knowledge about a topic can instruct another man on that topic, but this is not mentorship. Mentorship is not instruction; it is guidance through life, and the relationship between the mentor and his charge is long-lasting and close. At Azimuth, we appreciate any man who has become a mentor, but we're in the business of building Christian mentors. The age in which we live is suffering a dearth of male Christian mentors. Unfortunately, the church is not training boys to become men, nor is it training older men to be mentors. So, young Christian men are not being guided toward their best lives. This is a tragic reality. Azimuth Christian Ministries intents to remedy this. How? By training men young men to become stronger Christians, and older men to become mentors. Young men must be trained on a basic level of biblical knowledge and understanding and expected to matriculate into an advanced level as God’s natural process of development demands. Older men must, too, but faster because they need to be in an advanced stage of wisdom in order to mentor the youngers. When it's all said and done, all Azimuth men will be prepared, from their youth, to be Christian mentors, and any older Azimuth man ought to be known as an able mentor to any Christian young man. We at Azimuth have our work cut out for us! But we’re ready. All we need is you.
